Throughout Counter Strike history, from CS: 1.6 to CS: Source to now finally CS: Global Offensive has always done it’s competitive player-base justice by always offering tons of different leagues and tournaments for them to compete in. This is one of the major contributing factors to why the competitive female scene in CS:GO is perhaps the most developed among all the current esports. Among all the female CS:GO teams out there, the two teams that have reigned supreme are CLG: Red from the NA region and Team Secret from the EU region. Here’s a closer look at their backstories.
CLG:Red’s current roster consists of some very old school players like Missharvey, potter, and benita which were all teammates back when they were competing in CS 1.6 days under SK-gaming. During the CS 1.6 era, their team was by far the most dominant all-female team out there as they won ESWC practically every year they competed in. Alongside these veterans are di^v^ who came from a CS Source background and klaudia, who despite probably having the least experience among the 4, is statistically the best player on their team as of recently. CLG: Red has been competing in ESEA’s competitive leagues for over 10 seasons now and has been an above average team in ESEA-Main, which is highly respected. On top of this, they placed in many tournaments such as their 1st place finish in ESWC Montreal 2015. However, this team has recently been overshadowed by their EU counterparts and rivals, Team Secret.
Though technically Team Secret was formed on March 17 of 2016, their team consists of a few players that have been playing together for quite awhile now. zAAz, vilga, and juliano were all on Bad Monkey Gaming when they took home the gold by winning Intel Challenge Katowice #1. Soon afterwards, mimimicheater joined them in winning the following Intel Challenge Katowice #2 under the team name WRTP. So note that while they are officially now under the name “Team Secret”, the team’s core players have been playing with each other for a long time now and their current roster right now is perhaps the best it’s ever been. Both juliano and zAAz participated in the recent HTC 1v1 Invitational and proved that they were able to keep up in aim battles with top level pros. Juliano even beat Cadian in the first rounds.
It will be interesting to see how these two teams will stack up against each other in the tournaments coming up in 2017. The players on CLG Red were known for being dominant in 1.6 and now with the coming of CS:GO, players like zAAz who used to always lose to the former SK girls are now beating them. However despite how much promise Team Secret has shown, CLG Red was actually able to decisively beat them in their most recent encounter during the AnyKey Invitational showmatch that was held just a few days ago. As old rivals facing off against each other on the new reworked inferno, CLG Red pulled a huge upset and surprised Team Secret with a 16-6 victory.
With how much promise these two teams have shown throughout the years of competition, it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the esports worlds catches up with CS:GO in developing much larger female competitive scenes.
